It's running better already. It needs a bit of fine tuning and then I should be set. This isn't my final solution, I just need a temporary fix.

I wish I knew more about carbs, I really do. :/

Just a curious question, why are you set on getting the quad to run right? You could just have a bad quad. The quad of my 68 has and will never run right. Been to 3 professional shops, Ive rebuilt it, my granda has rebuilt it and never runs right. Slap a quad off a 402 BBC that's been sitting for 20 on and runs perfect but too rich. Sometimes it better to toss the quad.

I need a Qjet to get the shaker low enough. This edelbrock sits on a square bore to spread bore adapter which raises the carb too high. Also, fuel economy.

hmm, yeah I don't have that problem, although I'm tight due to my Z28 high rise intake, but I never saw a change in mpg with the quad it still drank gas. See if you can find another quad to test. You might find yours is just bad. I've tried mine on 3 engines and they all did the same thing so I just have a bad quad. Shame too since its the original one to the car

Did they ever have injection on these engines? Might be a bit of a leap, but it sounds like you'd get something quite low-profile and fuel economy to go with it.
Could be a solution.

Unlike your Z28, I have a hood scoop that sits on the carb and needs to fit properly. I've got a friend with a spare qjet that I'm going to try.

Nah. GM didn't really do TBI until 1986(?).

Drat. Could be an option for something custom though.
ITBs! You should do ITBs.

I guessing you don't want to spend the money, but there are spread bore carbs made by Holley and Edelbrock that would fit your intake without an adapter. You probably already know that but I thought I'd bring it up just in case you didn't.

I did not. I'll look into it.
